Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!
Welcome Parents, Guardians, and Students!
We are excited to welcome you all to Standing Bear High School! Our fourth year will be as memorable as our first three. It has been great to see all the students at Standing Bear this summer as they participate in camps, lift weights, and work with their directors of instrumental and vocal music. A high school doesn’t have downtime; it's just maybe a bit slower in the summer.
A new school continues to develop its traditions, customs, and practices. We have had a great start over the last 3 years. Our athletics teams competed at all levels, and growth through all teams; our student activities were in full swing, with Band, Orchestra, Vocal Music, Show Choir, Cheer, Dance, Yearbook, Speech, and Theater experiencing success in their performances and competitions. Our students continue documenting our progress in our student news (Bear Necessities) and Yearbook (Kodiak). Student council members organized events and activities to mark our school year, including Homecoming and Prom. Additionally, our Hope Squad continued to support all students through the phases of high school life. We are excited about joining the HAC (Heartland Athletic Conference) as we make our jump to Class A next year.
As the site is still a work in progress, more work is being done on our land. The softball complex will have new restrooms, concessions stand to serve the groups that come to the Southeast Sports Complex to compete. We are grateful for the partnership with the YMCA, which enables us to work on our soccer complex. Our Athletic Boosters and Performing Arts Boosters continue to support both large- and small-scale items on our campus, enhancing student experiences. As you think about your support, consider becoming a member of either of these organizations.
For the 2026-2027 school year:
The doors to the building will open at 6:45 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
Breakfast will be served starting at 7:25 a.m.
All students have an Advisement period, attached to their 2nd period, where we do community building, prosocial learning, academic monitoring, and wellness activities.
Students arriving before school starts will be asked to be in the cafeteria or the library.
Students can stay after school until 4:00 p.m. with supervision in the library.
We have hired 18 new staff members and are excited for your students to get to know them and work with them.
“The Power of Place” continues to guide our work as we create a learning space where students find their voice and passion, discover new interests, and develop relationships with teachers, counselors, and other adults in the building, along with students who will continue to make a mark on who they are and who they will continue to be.
I am sure you have more questions, and I encourage you to reach out to our school or through “Let’s Talk,” and we can make sure to answer them. Please check your email as the school year approaches; this will be our main method of communication with you.
If you haven’t already, please bookmark the Standing Bear Website (https://lsb.lps.org/), which will provide the most updated information.
We look forward to partnering with you on your student's high school journey and can’t wait for the memories they will create.
Enjoy the rest of summer, and I look forward to seeing you in August!
Go Grizzlies!
Sue Cassata, Principal
